Homemade Family Music!

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

This dad is on fuego! Stickers with notes on the keyboard, a empty plastic coke bottle for a percussive instrument and no judgement just fun. This is exactly how we can learn and teach thru play and that's what we do everyday at Ladybug. Now please – go make some music! :) Patricia

Ladybug’s New Year’s Resolution? Making music everyday in 2012…

Friday, January 6th, 2012

…and we hope your family will too!

This dad and daughter are incredible and I'm pretty sure they're making music everyday :)

Giving your children as many musical experiences as possible provides them with a base for building music literacy.  Here are a couple of easy ideas:

1) Do you have an old guitar or another instrument packed away in the garage?

Dust it off, tune it up and let your child pluck a string! Has your piano just become a piece of furniture? Lift up the cover and let your kid hit a few keys. Nothing beats experiencing instruments up close and hands on – who knows maybe you'll be inspired to plunk out a few notes too!

2)Ladybug has many songs that you can incorporate into your daily routines.

A Ladybug dad told me he was using "Blob Fish" from the Ladybug Music Blue Collection for a bathtub song – blowing bubbles and a fun little dunk when "Blobby" plops! Another mom uses the melody of the "Ladybug Hello Song" to help her young child remember their phone number.

Is there one musical thing you do everyday with your family? Please let us know on our Ladybug Music Facebook Page because we'd love to share your ideas! Happy New Years!! Patricia

Don’t worry about the words just sing a sound!

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Are your kids still too young to sing the words of their favorite song? Help them out!

Sing "vocables"- no words – just sounds – sing "la la" or "ooh ooh" or something like that to the melody and get ready to have some little singing monsters running around your house.

This tiny tot is ridiculous! He plays a mean ukulele (that's a whole other conversation) but he's also using vocables to sing this Jason Mraz song in key :) – Patricia

Bug out in 7/8 to LBM song “Walking Stick”!

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Young children learn music like they learn languages – no big deal! This is a kooky song from the Ladybug Music Red Collection  that I wrote in a 7/8 time signature & the kids LOVE it!

Take a listen & download it for free : Walking Stick & Walking Stick Lyrics

Counting out this 7/8 pattern is super easy once you break it down: 1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2 or one two three, one two, one two

I always tell the families to speak/sing it out first &  then when that feels good add a clap on the "ones" – give it a try this week but please be patient :) …Patricia
